- After School Sports
The City of San Gabriel offers after school enrichment for students 1st-5th grade. Monday - Friday immediately following dismissal. For information on how to register, visit their website.
- Art Classes
Multicultural art lessons are offered throughout year. Some topics that are offered are:

- Connecting art with nature, people and ocean conservation with a connection to contemporary artists of Shinnecock nation of Long Island
- Mosaic designs and Geometric art to relate to the Muslim people of the Swahili coast of Africa
- Underwater wilderness designs while learning about the art of Pacita Abad, a Filipina American artist

Self portraits with our favorite animals with a connection to artist Frida Kahlo

We also collaborate with SGUSD's VAPA program for continued art integration in the classroom. VAPA website.
- Awards Assemblies
At the end of each trimester, students are recognized for their outstanding achievements ELA, math, and citizenship in grades TK-3rd. Students in grades 4th-5th are recognized with Honor Roll and Principal's Honor Roll.
- Book Fair
PEP holds a book fair for students at least 3 times a year. Parents may volunteer to assist in the book fair. See PEP for more information.
- After School Enrichment Programs
Each trimester McKinley host an after school enrichment class which varies from Chess Masters, Mad Science, Culinary Arts, Lego Robotics, etc. These programs are offered to all student for a minimal fee. Information will be sent home.
- Computer Lab
Students are given computer instruction in the lab at least 30 minutes per week. Instruction includes keyboarding, supplementary software reinforcements, coding via Code.org and Google CS First, and digital citizenship.
- Library
Library class time for students to read, listen to a story, & checkout books.
- McKinley Newsletter
McKinley School puts out news articles every trimester.
- Parent Education
Programs throughout the year to assist parents how to support their child with Math, Social Studies homework, etc.. Topics will vary from month to month. Information about times and dates will be sent home to parents.
- Read Across America
In partnership with our GHS and DMHS, students spend quality time reading together. This provides our students an opportunity to read with a positive high school mentor.
- Reading Buddies
Our teachers collaborate to provide upper grade students an opportunity read to lower grade classroom buddies. It fosters the love of reading and students interact with another grade level.
- Student Council
Students in 4th and 5th grade have an opportunity to be leaders. They make decisions on monthly activities, judge school contest, participate in award assemblies, and more.
- Volunteer Recognition
Volunteers are honored by the school staff.
