Welcome to McKinley Elementary School

As the largest of San Gabriel Unified School District’s five elementary schools, McKinley Elementary is proud to offer a nurturing, student-centered environment that is deeply committed to academic excellence and the whole-child approach to learning. We hope this handbook helps you see McKinley not just as a school, but as a community that values and supports every child’s journey.

Our dedicated team of educators and staff members work tirelessly to ensure that all students learn, grow, and succeed. We set high standards for ourselves and, in turn, hold high expectations for our students—all within a caring and compassionate learning environment. We also believe in the power of partnership, working closely with parents and the community to provide a rich and well-rounded educational experience.

Students at McKinley benefit from a wide range of support services funded through various programs. These include reading and math intervention, after-school academic programs, and science camp. We are proud to have highly qualified specialists on staff, including a speech and language pathologist, district psychologist, school counselor, adapted physical education specialist, and credentialed special education teachers to support students with unique needs.

For Multilingual learners, we provide targeted instruction and language acquisition support through our dedicated ELD teacher and instructional aide. All McKinley teachers hold specialized training and credentials to effectively teach diverse learners. Additionally, we have a full-time health aide, a district nurse who supports our site, and a full-time school counselor to address students' academic and emotional well-being.

McKinley embraces its rich history and celebrates the vibrant cultural diversity of our school community. We are committed to preparing students for success beyond the classroom by aligning our educational efforts with the district’s Portrait of a Graduate (POG). Through the development of six core competencies, we foster student self-worth, appreciation of diversity, social responsibility, and a lifelong passion for learning.

We encourage you to review the school policies included in this handbook and discuss them with your child. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (626) 288-6681.

Sincerely,

Tuoi Nguyen
