Following the screening, attendees are invited to stay for a live Q&A panel featuring math and science education experts, including Dr. Winicki-Landman, mathematics professor at Cal Poly Pomona, as well as a representative from SGUSD. Together, they will discuss the film’s central themes and offer practical insights into how schools and families can better prepare students for a math-powered world.
About the Film
Counted Out sheds light on the urgent need to ensure all students have access to strong math, science, and computer science education. In today’s technology-driven society, math is a gatekeeper to civic engagement, career mobility, and societal influence. Through personal stories, expert interviews, and classroom transformations, the film challenges long-held myths about who is, and who isn’t, a “math person.”
This screening is part of SGUSD’s ongoing efforts to support equitable, high-quality instruction across all campuses and to prepare students to become Creative Thinkers, Problem Solvers, and Global Citizens, as outlined in the district’s Portrait of a Graduate competencies.
